On track...sort of....

Track having just arrived, scenery work will take a break while I lay some track around the room.

A roll in the grass....

Have grassed the embankment on the Up side of Glenburn with a combination of Silflor and Woodland Scenics materials.

Wired

Wiring up on Glenburn Rd completes initial work on this section.

Even more details....

PECO's 4mm 1926 Thornycroft is slightly overscale for Glenburn, however will be placed at the front of the layout thereby forcing perspective.

A typical VR advertising hoarding of the era, the Yates add dates from 1930.

Details, details

Not too much time for major modelling lately so have worked on some detailing for Glenburn.

End of Shopping & Other Updates

Final row of shops/offices for Glenburn Rd, these showing affects of the economic slowdown of the late 1920's/early 1930's with the shop on the right end To Let.

Holidays also mean time for some of the many small completions required across Glenburn including the alley behind the bookshop, corbels on some of the verandah posts and completing the bluestone pitching for the road gutter.

Proverbs 3:5-6

" Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight. "

Christmas break has allowed time to embed All Saints, Glenburn

Traffic

Jordan Products 1926 Essex Coach kit was another joy to assemble but is perhaps just a little too clean.

.........and MORE shops

Only one more set to go after this one. Less interior detail this time as it is toward the back of the layout.

All Saints

In the older suburbs across Melbourne bluestone churches with sandstone highlights are signature emblems, the spires gracing many ridge and sight lines. Glenferrie's fine example is seen from the station below:

So, for All Saints,Glenburn I chose Kibri's "Westerwald" kit as the basis, and modified it from this:

To this:

Congratulations to Kibri on one of the most enjoyable kits I have ever made, a very well engineered example of the kit builder's craft.

Retail Therapy

2 (actually 1.3) more stores for Glenburn Rd - The full building is identical to the Tea Rooms on the Dn side as it is also a railway building built into the platform end, and the 0.3 bounds the baseboard edge.

All dressed up and nowhere to go.

With all effort concentrated on Glenburn Rd, trains won't be running for a while....

Glenburn Rd Abridged

My good (and well versed in VR matters) friend Mark Tregoning tells me Micro-Engineering's girder bridge is a very close match for the prototype. So here's one of the 100ft double track versions suitably modified to fit the gap over Glenburn Rd, and it certainly looks the part. The deck will be ballasted in the next round.

Home Turf

An ex-Hawthorn Tramways Trust Maximum Traction Bogie tram (A JEM kit), modified from HTT form as a later M&MTB N Class is appropriate for Glenburn Rd's requirements in the mid 1930's.

I rarely get to make production kits, as Glenburn's requirements mean it has to be largely a scratchbuild, so found Jordan Product's 1928 A Model Ford quite a relief!
